Extra Credit Book Report Option Spring 11th Grade

1. Select a book from the following list

2. Upon reading the book, write a book report in which you:

a) Write a summary of each chapter. Summary length depends on the book/chapter, and must include the main points and some supporting details. Summaries must be in your own words, and not taken from other sources. Plagiarized work will not be accepted.

b) Each chapter summary should be followed by a reflection of that chapter. Reflections can include what you learned about the chapter, what you thought about it, what you felt as you were reading it, connections to other texts and ideas, and should reveal your honest thoughts and opinions. The reflection should be roughly the same length as the summary.

3. Submit your paper to me by email (jlr0374@lausd.net) by Saturday, April 15. Make sure to use MLA format in your heading and appearance of your paper. 

This paper is worth up to 20 extra credit points.

You will be graded on:

  • accuracy and thoroughness of summaries
  • depth of reflection
  • grammar, spelling, mechanics, usage and formatting

Tutoring and SAT Prep Workshops

Boys and Girls Club offers tutoring services specific to the courses you are taking on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in Z-195. If you attend a tutoring session, bring me proof for 2pts extra credit EACH DAY YOU GO.

Textbooks are a crucial part of this class, and should be brought to class everyday unless specifically indicated.

On days we do not use textbooks in class, they should be kept in your locker.
