Los Angeles City Section Champions
A crowd of about 4,000 watched on a rainy night at Dodger Stadium as the top-seeded Chancellors broke open a close contest to beat Poly, 17-7, in a game called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.
Charles Kenny, the No. 9 hitter in the lineup, ended a 6-6 tie in the fifth with a three-run triple. Kenny finished with three hits and six runs batted in. The Chancellors had 17 hits, including three by Matt Cassel, and set a record for most runs scored in the 30-year history of the City Final at Dodger Stadium.
Left-hander Mike Kunes (13-1), the City Section player of the year, struck out 10 to finish his two-year Chatsworth varsity career with a 25-3 record.
