Hello students, parents, and community members! My name is Mr. Steve Miller. I've been the teacher librarian at Chatsworth Charter High School since Fall 2022.
I have been with the Los Angeles Unified School District for 25 years. In those years, I have taught students ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I have taught both as an English teacher and as a teacher librarian. I have a strong interest in educational technology, artificial intelligence in education, and try to use it as much as possible when I'm teaching. So, my students will frequently use technology (mobile devices and Chromebooks) to complete their work.
I live with my daughter, Abigail; our dog, Enzo; and guinea pigs, Fiona and Mia.
This is Enzo and Abigail. Enzo is 15 years old. We rescued him from the Camarillo Animal Shelter. He is such a character. He's the funniest little dog. Brave in appearance. Coward by nature. Abigail just turned 12 (this is an old picture). She's going into seventh grade this year. Abigail right now is really into anime/manga, drawing, and video games. Here's a picture of my daughter and dog. :)
After graduating high school in 1991, I served active duty in the U.S. Navy for two years onboard the USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. While onboard, my ship did a six-month overseas deployment to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch. After fulfilling my active duty obligation in 1993, I transferred to the Navy Reserves and enrolled in college.
I received my Associate of Arts degree in Humanities from College of the Canyons in 1997. Then; after transferring to California State University, Northridge; I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2000. After graduating, I dabbled in the world of publishing but decided to become a teacher. While teaching under an emergency teaching permit, I received my California Single Subject Teaching Credential in English from CSUN in 2003. Later, I earned both my Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration and California Administrative Services Credential in 2005 as well as my California Teacher Librarian Services credential in 2010. In addition to all that, I also have my supplementary authorization to teach Introductory Mathematics and Computer Concepts and Applications.

I love reading. Specifically, I love reading fantasy and science fiction. My favorite authors are Brandon Sanderson, author of the Mistborn fantasy series and Stormlight Archives fantasy series; and Robin Hobb, the author of the Realm of the Elderlings fantasy series. I'm also really into Dungeons & Dragons, a tabletop roll-playing game that has been around for 50 years. In fact, I'm the CCHS Dungeons & Dragons Club sponsor. Additionally, I'm learning how to play Magic the Gathering, a trading card game (TCG) that has been around for over 30 years. I'm going to learn Pokemon as well so I can play with my daughter. I also began collecting in Dungeons & Dragons and Magic the Gathering collectibles. When you walk into my office, you'll see my collection. I also want to get into anime as well. I proudly consider myself nerd chic. Everything that used to be nerdy when I was in high school is now somehow cool.

My favorite TV show is Critical Role's Vox Machina. I also really like the anime series, Solo Leveling and Arcane, and Murderbot. I definitely read way more than watch TV shows, though. I love my Kindle so much!
