7 There was a local winner in seven basketball championship games alone Saturday, beginning with Oaks Christian defeating Buckley in the Div. IV-A boys' final at Anaheim Convention Center and concluding with Valley Torah's dramatic comeback at Mater Dei.
In between, Harvard-Westlake and Flintridge Prep added Southern Section boys' titles, Chatsworth secured the City Div. III boys' crown and Taft finally got over the hump against rival Westchester in the City Div. I final, posting a 66-62 victory at Galen Center for the Toreadors' third championship.
The lone area girls' basketball champion, not only Saturday, but overall was Monroe, which atoned for a loss to Birmingham in last year's City Div. III final by defeating Reseda at Roybal Learning Center.
