Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Former Chancellors All-American Mike Moustakas has been selected player of the year in the double-A Texas League after hitting .347 with 21 home runs and 76 runs batted in while with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals before being promoted to triple-A Omaha of the Pacific Coast League.

On Monday night, Moustakas established an Omaha franchise single-game record with 11 runs batted in after hitting three runs and a double in the Royals' 23-5 victory over Round Rock at Rosenblatt Stadium.

The left-handed-hitting third baseman, selected No. 2 overall by the Kansas City Royals in the 2007 June amateur draft, hit two home runs and collected five RBIs in the third inning, hit a three-run double in the fourth and a three-run homer in the seventh.
