Course Description

 

Purpose & Objectives:  

Continue learning  to speak and write in French and gain the ACTFL intermediate (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) levels of listening, speaking, reading and writing. How? 

  1. Use target language in class for basic interaction with peers/ teacher and presentations. 2. Communicate effectively on very familiar topics, demonstrating linguistic awareness. 3. Understand and use language to express ideas on very familiar topics with some accuracy and fluency. 4. Organize ideas on very familiar topics, in an authentic and relevant way. 
  2. Understand a range of basic written texts and spoken conversation.

COMMUNICATE, EXPLORE, AND CONNECT ACROSS CULTURES

The standards-based EntreCultures program is all about teaching French language and culture to novice through intermediate learners through the lens of interculturality. Students discover appropriate ways to interact with a variety of perspectives by exploring the lives of teens across the francophone world.

In level 2, learners build the language skills, personal attitudes, and cultural insights necessary to experience life EntreCultures using French to connect with people and their own community. Vocabulary and grammar are presented in context. The online Explorer® provides all audio-visual resources, scaffolding, vocabulary, and grammar reinforcement, including flipped classroom videos, with all activities tied to the Mon dossier to upload performance evidence.


Topics & Resources: 

The textbook used is Entre Cultures. It explores the following topics: 

  1. C’est la rentrée 2. À Table 3. Au boulot 4.  Une ville qui bouge  5. Des conseils pour une vie saine. 6. Voyager autrement

Assessment and Grading: 

Student evaluation will be based on the 3 modes of communication: 

  1. Interpretive: an active negotiation of meaning construction; includes the cultural interpretation of text, movies, radio, television, and speeches. 

  1. Interpersonal: Active negotiation of meaning among individuals through conversation; or through reading and writing. 

3. Presentational: Creation of spoken or written communication prepared for an audience and rehearsed, revised or edited before presentation.
