Course Description This course aims to develop English language skills, using materials at the low intermediate (2A) and high intermediate language proficiency levels (2B). Using materials of various reading genres: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama, students develop reading and writing strategies as they trace the plot of stories, interpret and evaluate characters, and analyze different literary elements, themes and poetic devices such as rhyme, rhythm, and figurative language. Students develop reading comprehension strategies and skills such as sequencing, making inferences, identifying cause and effect, comparing and contrasting, identifying main ideas, among others. They write poetry, stories, expository, persuasive essays, and literary analysis while they go through the writing process of generating and organizing ideas, revising, editing, and publishing. Grammar lessons are integrated into the reading and writing process as they analyze the sentence structure of the reading and their own writing.
