2) Assignment Background:
Air Power in World War II.  -  World War II was different from any other previous war because of the widespread use of Air Power.  For the first time, the use of aircraft became the major factor that decided if one side or the other would win or lose a battle.  Every major battle was determined by which side best used their aviation resources (aircraft).  This was shown throughout the war from the German Blitzkrieg, to the Battle of Britain, to Strategic Bombing in Europe and Japan, to Island Hopping in the Pacific, to the Kamikaze attacks against the U.S. Navy and the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  The side that used their Air Power best won.  In order to help the American public understand why building aircraft was so important, Walt Disney made a movie in 1943 called Victory through Air Power.  Based upon a very popular book at that time, it explained to the public how Air Power was affecting the war.  Because the film was made before the war ended, some of its predictions did not come true.  However, most of its basic theory was accurate and can be seen in how the war played out.  Your assignment is to watch that film on Youtube and imagine you are in a movie theatre in 1943.

3) What to do:  Step one:  Answer the following questions about the film Victory through Air Power.  Use complete sentences in your answers.

Step two:  Combine the sentences together into a complete, single paragraph.  Make sure your connections between sentences make sense.  Submit the completed work as a text document into Schoology.  This work is due by Friday April 24th.

  1.       What was the name of the film and when was it made?
  2.      What was the film about (What was the main idea they were trying to explain)?
  3.       Who made the film and why did they make it?
  4.       Which ideas that were discussed in the film impressed you the most? Why did they impress you.
  5.       Would you consider this film to be more of a documentary or a propaganda film? Why?
  6.       What did you learn from the film?
  7.       Would you recommend this film to a friend? Why or why not?
  8.       Overall, what did you think of this film? Did you like it?  Why or why not?
