Personal Landscape Photo Homework Assignment- 25
Bring an outdoor photo to class for the next painting assignment. Photo should be of nature (not buildings) and have depth. Photo may be a snapshot, from the computer, a magazine, etc. Must be a photo not a painting. Students having to source may come in to J-69 outside of class time to select a photo from Mrs. Lawson's collection or use the classroom computer.

Rock 3-D Value Drawing -25
Draw 4 different views of a rock grouping. Grouping must have at least 3 rocks and 2 must overlap. Drawing must include a single light source, 5 values ( white, med-light, med, med-dark, black), and a horizon line. Drawing #4 must change in scale to become a mountain.

ARTWORK ANALYSIS PACKET = 100 points

These two assignments are about analysis, learning to look at the parts and put together again for meaning. Find a famous artist’s landscape picture and reproduce it into a black, white & 2 grays collage. The artwork should have a strong foreground, middleground, and background. It should also have areas of strong contrast (differences).
When finished with the collage skill builder assignment, begin working on the Artwork Analysis Packet. Page 1 & 2 are analysis of the painting you selected. Page 3 is analysis of your collage.
When you have finished both the collage & the Analysis Packet. Sign-up on the clipboard for a grade conference with Mrs. Lawson.

LICENSE PLATE PAINTING - due E.O.P Friday 11/7- 220 points total

After completing in class the watercolor on cardboard painting of your California license plate, fill out the attached assessment sheet and tape to the back of the painting. Make sure your name is on both.

LICENSE PLATE PAINTING WRITTEN REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT- due E.O.P., Friday 11/7 - 50 points

Directions: On a separate sheet of paper answer the following questions in complete sentences, using blue or black ink, single side of paper, and double spacing. Use specific examples from your painting as evidence of your learning. Also consider the class discussions, presentations, and demonstrations offered as part of the instruction in this unit and prior units in your answers. Remember to use the Chatsworth heading. Place writing assignment in the turn-in drawer by the due date.


Why can painting be called visual communication? How does your painting communicate your theme (idea)? What is the most important part of your painting? How did you make this component the dominant point in the design of your painting (what was the process for making it work)? What other elements help support or reinforce your theme? How do they do this? Although your painting has a modern theme, how does it compare to what has been done before? What is the same? What is different?

DIGITAL PORTFOLIO - Painting #1-License Plate - Due: E.O.P., Friday, 11/7- 50 points

Follow the steps demonstrated in class. Use a digital camera (provided) to take a picture of your finished License Plate painting. Save the digital picture to your electronic portfolio and print out a copy of the picture. Glue the printed picture to the Unit # 2- Symbolism divider page.

ORGANIZATION GRADE = 50 pts. File all returned graded work in art folder in order behind appropriate divider. Keep all work. Copy assignment list and record your scores.

PENCIL DESIGN TEMPLATE - 100 points

After getting an "OK" on your design idea from Mrs. Lawson, begin creating your final design in pencil on the DESIGN TEMPLATE. Use computer #2 to type letters and numbers in the California license plate style. Then trace the outline of each letter, including the shadows and highlights. Next trace or draw your image(s). Remember the quality of your drawings must be "art".

Design Rubric-
1. Must have school appropriate images, letters, & numbers.
2. California license plate style letters and/or numbers
3. At least one image must be larger than the letter for emphasis
4. At least one image and letter must overlap to create the illusion of 3-D depth
5. The more evidence of thinking (complexity), the more points the design will earn

COLOR PLAN TEMPLATE - 100 points

After completing your Pencil Design on the template, begin coloring the design using colored pencils. The Color Plan is used to work out any design problems before painting. Your license plate must follow the California color scheme: red-california, white-background, blue-lettering. In addition, you may select up to 5 more colors to complete your design.

Color Rubric:
1. Color Plan follows California color scheme
2. Tabs are correct colors- month = light blue letters on white background, year= for the year you turn (or turned) 16 in black letter on the correct sequence backbground
3. Colors have been repeated to create unity
4. Overall neatness and quality of work

Art Portfolio Divider Page Design Assignment - REVISED DUE DATE 9/19 BOC- 125 points

One design is assigned each day in class. If pencil drawing is not complete on 7-1/2 X 7-1/2 white square, the design becomes homework. The pencil drawing is due at the beginning of class the following day. Student will then trace the pencil with sharpie and add watercolor pencil in class. When this is done, student should start the next design.
