Assignment

Juniors who are soon-to-be seniors!

Take some time to visit the website linked below and you can gain valuable insight into the college application and admissions process.

Remember that the student profiles, essays, and admission decisions are representative of the late 1990's and a university commensurate with UCB (Berkeley); perhaps admissions standards are far more stringent today.

This might be an activity to share with your parents.

You should also spend some time in your local book store perusing the college admissions essays books.  They are ususally split into sections that are easily accessed to help guide you as you continue to plan your university applications.

Another book that may lend addtional insights is Admissions Confidential.  This can be found in the same section of the book store.  This is a former admissions official from a major private university and her confessions about students' applications and admissions.

Continue to monitor your colleges of choice for application availability.  It is never too early to start!  And, take those virtual college tours offered on your computer.

Sign up for, and plan to attend the college "open house" at Occidental College in Los Angeles (near Eagle Rock, just past the Glendale Galleria).  This is a quality experience for all potential college students looking for a small liberal arts college with an Eastern flair.  This opportunity comes in September or October.
The financial aid meeting for parents is invaluable (and eye-opening!) as Oxy hands out information that is the same for other private universities.

Actually attending this Oxy "open house" gives you an opportunity to interview college students and be able to ask questions about the college experience.  This may also assist you in evaluating other colleges.  (See the link below!)

As always, if you have questions or concerns, see Mrs. Zeldin, or contact Mrs. Krausen in the College Office.  She is always happy to meet with you and/or your parents.

Decisions you make today may influence and affect the rest of your life!

Good luck!
