Sports Therapeutics (Period 1) Assignments

Description

This competency-based course provides students with hands-on training on the basic duties of a physical therapist, certified athletic trainer, personal trainer, physical therapy aide, fitness instructor, message therapist, and other fields related to health care. Technical instruction includes an orientation, safety and infection control, communication and interpersonal skills, mathematics proficiency, and employability skills. Emphasis is placed on ethical and legal issues in sports therapy; observation, reporting, and charting; medical terminology; nutrition and metabolism; first aid and CPR; physical therapy procedures; physical therapy modalities; sports and therapeutic equipment; pharmacology; patient care skills; and clinical protocol. The competencies in this course are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards.

VOLUNTEER: LA Cancer Challenge - Sunday October 25th

  ****All volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the volunteer waiver. 
 
Opportunity for (18 ) Medical Hours + 30 extra credit points in your Sports therapeutics Class and/or Health Information Technician Class.
 
Arrival Time:
All race volunteers are asked to arrive at Warner Park between 5:30-6:00 AM. Once you arrive at the event, please walk directly to the Volunteer Check- In Botth located at the north end of the Expo, near the START LINE. Volunteers are needed until approximately noon. 
 
Parking and Directions:
Free parking is available at Anthem Blue Cross, located at 21555 Oxnard St, Woodland Hills, CA 91367. All participants must enter the parking lot on Owensmouth Avenue between Erwin and Oxnard, on the east side into gates #1 or #2. This is approximately .4 of a mile to the start line. Free shuttles will also be provided to and from the Start Line area.
 
What Will You Be Doiong?
At the race, volunteers help with registration, water stations on the course, or in the expo. Assignments are made race day, once you have checked in at the volunteer booth.
 
What Should You Wear:
The LACC is the starting line to halloween fun, and many of our participants will arrive in costume. We love our volunteers to get into spirit too. Come dressed in costumes, dress in purple (our awareness color) or just dress comfortably. You will receive an event t-shirt at check in. 
 
Volunteer Appreciation:
We are incredibly thankful for our volunteers. On race day, there will be beverages and snacks available in the morning. For hose of you requiring service letters, they will be available at the race.
