I have been teaching health and science in LAUSD for over 25 years.  I started teaching health at Chatsworth Charter High School in the fall of 2021.  I am a Chatsworth person through and through.  I started my education at Chatsworth Park Elementary and then moved on to Lawrence Junior High and Chatsworth High School.  I earned a BS degree in Biology from the UC Irvine.  After getting my teaching credential at CSUN, I spent 4 years teaching at Frost Middle School in Granada Hills.  After that, I spent 21 years teaching health and science in the Lawrence Gifted Magnet in Chatsworth.  Now I'm happy to be at Chatsworth Charter High School.

In the fall, I teach health.  In the spring, I teach health and an elective called teen health.

The health course is a high school graduation requirement.  All students must pass it to be able to get a high school diploma.  We cover the curriculum that goes along with our new textbook, Comprehensive Health Skills Third Edition published by G-W 2021.  We will also use programs that are required by LAUSD.  Positive Prevention Plus will be used to teach the students about sexual health, pregnancy prevention and sexually transmitted infection prevention.  Project TND Towards No Drug Abuse will be used to teach the students about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

The teen health class is an elective where I teach students all about the human body and other important health issues.

I am sponsoring a club called Relay for Life.  Relay for Life is a fundraising program for the American Cancer Society.  I have been doing it with my students since 2008 and in that time, we have raised over $90,000 for cancer research and patient services.  As a club, we discuss fundraising, cancer prevention, cancer screenings, and ways to help people with cancer.  Every family has been touched by cancer in some way.  any students who are interested in joining Relay for Life should talk to me, or send me an email.

We will be participating in the Relay of the Greater Valley on September 24th. at LA Valley College from 10am to 9pm.  You can attend the event at any time during the day.  You don't have to stay for the entire event.  If you can't attend the event, you are still welcome in the club.

Relay for Life is a community event.  Anyone is welcome to start a team or join the planning committee.  Teams can involve friends, families, coworkers, teammates, people who practice hobbies together, people who practice religion together, or anybody else you want to form a team with.  If you would like to get involved, please send me an email.  We would love to have you.  You can also visit the website for the Greater Valley Relay.  https://secure.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY22WER?pg=entry&fr_id=102517
