I am an English teacher at Chatsworth Charter High School who specializes in helping students with special needs improve their literacy. This year I am teaching English Reading, Writing and Composition (12th grade English), American Literature and Composition (11th grade English), and Advanced English Language Development for English Learners.
I hope to make class as interesting and beneficial to students as possible.
I set high expectations for students, and I want to take this opportunity to share my classroom guidelines and grading system:
1.Be punctual – Arrive on time ready to learn with books, paper and writing utensils.
2.Be professional – Practice “workplace suitable behavior” by showing respect for yourself and others, so you perform better in school and beyond.
3.Be productive – The key to learning, in life and in my class, is through participation!
Tests, quizzes, classwork, homework, and cooperation are based on points. Each student has the opportunity to earn points through student work and behavior in class. The points are inputted into a computer and are averaged on all assignments in the class. The percentage value of the assignments are as follows:
Classwork/Participation=50%; Tests and Quizzes=30%, Homework=20%
Students who attend regularly, are respectful, take part in lessons, discussions and group and individual assignments will learn as much as possible, and it will reflect positively in their grade. Grades are also based on individual academic abilities and progress according to IEP goals and objectives. Participation points are accrued during each 5-week grading period and can help offset any poor performances on quizzes and tests some students might have.
Homework and out-of-class projects are occasionally assigned to help students practice literacy-related skills learned in school, or if students neglect to finish work in class.
Syllabi for each course is available below. For more information about your student's progress, please access your student's LAUSD Schoology account using the link below. Major assignments are also posted in Google Classroom.
Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns or feedback regarding my classes and your student.
Hopefully this will be a great year of learning!
