Learning Connections and Reflections
You can use the following Google doc as a simple activity for your students to complete after watching media selected by you on PBS LearningMedia or programming on KLCS. The link below will ask you if you would like to make a copy.

Many edtech companies are offering free subscriptions during this time so check out this growing list of offerings.

If you are making a video of your Google Slides presentation, consider turning on the Closed Caption ability to support our students that are English Learners, deaf or hard of hearing.
No matter what your strengths and/or areas of growth might be, interactive activities you design for your students will fall into one of the following three categories: Absorb, Do, Connect.

Activity Type:

Absorb

Do

Connect

Description

Absorb activities usually consist of information and the actions learners take to extract and comprehend knowledge from that information.

Do activities transform information from Absorb activities into knowledge and skills.

Connect activities integrate what we are learning with what we know.

Examples

  • Presentations: Learners watch or listen to a slide show, demonstration, podcast...

  • Readings: Learners read online or paper documents

  • Stories by a teacher: Learners listen to a relevant story told by the teachers or some other expert

  • Field trips: Learners virtually visit museums, historic sites...

  • Practice: Learners apply information, knowledge and skills (can be teamwork)

  • Discovery: Learners are guided to make discoveries

  • Games and simulations: Learners attempt tasks in safe environments and learn from the feedback they receive

  • Ponder: Learners think deeply and broadly about a subject (answer rhetorical questions, identify and evaluate examples, summarize learning)…

  • Questioning: Learners fill in gaps by asking questions of teachers, experts, and peers

  • Research: Learners discover and use their own sources of information

  • Original work: Learners perform genuine work and submit it for feedback
