Service Learning Requirements

Chatsworth Charter High School requires 11th graders to complete a service learning project in order to earn their diploma. The Humanitas Academy allows students to complete their service learning requirement through their 11th grade History and English classes. During their junior year Humanitas students work on an interdisciplinary project focusing on a specific time in history (the 1920s, the 1960s, etc.) combined with a novel in their English class (The Great Gatsby, The Things They Carried, etc.) Students recreate this era through costume, ways of life demonstrated in demos and student scripted vignettes in a one day performance open to all students and the members of the Chatsworth community.

Community Service Hours

In addition to the 20 hours required by Chatsworth Charter High School, the Humanitas Academy adds an additional 40 hours of community service for the Humanitas student to earn a graduation stoll. Students may earn these additional hours by volunteering in the Chatsworth community at various sites approved by a Humanitas educator, participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and tutoring after school at several preschool and middle schools.
