Assessment today on Measurement, Uncertainty and Graphical Relationships
   You'll be asked to:
  • measure the mass and volume for a pure substance
  • graph mass-volume data to determine the density of a pure substance
  • compare densities
  • use data and graph to determine the identify of an unknown substance
  • interpret the type of relationship that exists for another set of data
  • determine and explain if a mixture is homogeneous or heterogeneous and explain
Your packet of lab notes and class work is due today

Due:

Assignment

Reminder that our assessment on measurement, uncertainty and graphical analysis is Thursday.  On the assessment, you'll be asked to graph some data and look for a quantitative pattern.  For homework tonight:
  • look a the data for question #1 from the attached file (its an old assessment).  Decide which variable (concentration or light absorbance) is the independent variable and which is the dependent
  • correctly graph the data from question #1  Remember from class on Tuesday that the independent variable goes on the X-axis
  • confirm that this data is linear; then calculate the slope
  • the data you graphed is for a blue copper sulfate solution.  In an experiment, a lab student measures the concentration and light absorbance of another blue solution.  Here is the data: concentration = 1.9 M, light absorbance = 3.62.  Is this solution copper sulfate? Explain how you came to this conclusion

Due:

Assignment

For HW tonight complete the questions (1-14) from the attached file which is based on our investigation "Evidence for a Chemical Change," Analysis of our Reaction Products, and in-class small group analysis.
