Referral Room (Dean's Office)
STUDENTS CAN BE SENT TO THE DEANS' OFFICE FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

To: Parents of Chatsworth High School Students

From: Glenn Shockley, Dean

Re: Operations of Referral Room

The educational process is steeped in discipline and requires work and attention for success. A concentrated effort by individual students and collective classes are essential for learning. Creating an environment where these characteristics are utilized to their maximum advantage is a special goal of teachers so that students can learn to their individual potentials. It is impossible to learn when discipline and attention are absent.

Chatsworth High School has created a learning environment where students can be successful. Infrequently, situations arise in a classroom where the learning environment is disrupted due to emotional outbursts or other unforeseen circumstances and actions by the teacher are required to bring those circumstances back under control. It is in support of teachers in these situations that Chatsworth's staff created the referral room at Chatsworth High School. That referral room, commonly known as K78, is utilized in remediating these aberrant conditions in the following manner:
  • It serves as a place of removal for students who in any manner disrupt learning.

  • It informs parents of aberrant behavior.

  • It teaches students certain mechanics of education employing rote memorization techniques.

  • It displays for students that consequences exist for poor behavior.

Our goal is the education of every student to the maximum of his or her individual capacities. Secondarily, we seek to keep parents informed of their child's educational progress while at Chatsworth. We seek the help and guidance of the parents, administration and the staff in the pursuit of these goals.
