We believe that the presence of certain types of clothing and attire can interfere with these objectives. Therefore, the standards stated below shall be adhered to at Chatsworth High School by all students.

Chatsworth High School
Tardy Policy 2007/2008

Chatsworth High School believes that success in school is dependent upon punctual, regular attendance. We also believe tardiness has a direct correlation to poor student performance and is detrimental to the total learning environment. Recognizing that classroom attendance cannot be substituted, we adhere to the following tardy policy, as developed by the Chatsworth Leadership Council.

Definition of Being Tardy: A student who is not at his or her workstation when the tardy bell rings ready to work.

POLICY:

Students are to go directly to C-hall when they are tardy, not to the Attendance office or K-78. Tardy issues will not be handled in K-78.Tardy lockouts will be done frequently at every period including homeroom. Teachers are to close their classroom doors after the tardy bell rings. Students should not be allowed in the classroom without a tardy pass.
Only students with referral forms and truancies are to be sent to K-78.
A student is considered truant if they show up without a tardy pass 30 minutes after the class has started.

1st – 5th tardy:
Student is issued a tardy pass to class.
6th tardy:
Student is issued a tardy pass to class and assigned two hours of detention. All privileges to attend school activities are suspended (through the senior year) until detention is served. All student athletes will be subject to suspension from participation in practices and games until detention is served. Athletes who continue to defy the tardy/attendance policies will be removed from the team. Suspended privileges include: Homecoming dance, Parking passes, Winter Formal, T.A. assignments, Prom, Grad Night and Graduation participation. Parent notification of detention and citations for detention will be handled through the Parent Center.
  • Any senior who exceeds ten tardies in any class at the end of the fall semester will be denied the privilege of being issued a parking pass for the spring semester and participation in Grad Night and senior prom. Any senior who exceeds 10 or more tardies in any class at the end of the spring semester will denied participation in the graduation ceremony

  • Any student who receives detention for the third time will be required to schedule a conference with their parent at the school with our School Attendance Review team.

  • If a student continues being tardy the School Attendance Review Team Process (SART) will be initiated. This process is a very serious legal procedure that attempts to solve the problem and may include finding an alternative placement or referring the parent/guardian and student to court.
