What Would You Do if You Were the Principal?

Have you ever thought what you would do if you were principal? Plenty of students had their own opinion of what should be done around the school; some were more serious than others.

Senior Crystina McDonald thought there were changes needed within the classroom. “I would get new computers, hire professional tutors, so students can get better grades, and I would also add a Taxes 101 class to the electives, which is a class that allows kids to learn how to do taxes,” she said. McDonald believes that there should be more electives that are going to come in handy for the students in their future.

Another student focused on sports. I would manufacture Chatsworth’s track field to make it better, and provide the players with better equipment. People think of track as a minor sport, and overlook it, which causes this school to not pay attention to it,” said Sophomore Shauzub Raza.

Senior Bridgette Williams focused specifically on her grade level, saying, “I would get rid of the TAP program because it stops seniors from graduating.”

Principal Guy agreed with some of the ideas students had, but not all of them. “I disagree with getting rid of the TAP program because students need to be at school on time, and sometimes there are over 50 kids that come late to school. And if we didn’t have the TAP program, more students would think they can ditch class whenever they want.”

He added that, “we have two computer labs with brand new computers, and we are building two more computer labs for the students.”

“I do agree that we need a new track and field. We are working on raising the money to make that happen,” he continued.

The principal also said he thinks the Tax 101 class is a great idea and said he would add it to the electives offered if he could find an instructor to teach it.

Principal Guy noted two changes that are planned for Chatsworth. He says that next year there will be a Dual Language Program (Korean), and 2017-18, may see a STEM Magnet Program.
