Have a very nice Thanksgiving everyone.

The fall semester is coming to a close quickly (we have 2 instructional weeks left and then finals).  I need for you to cover some Honors Chem material over the week long break.  Our final exam will be like a unit assessment and will cover covalent chemical bonding, inter-molecular forces of attraction, and the energy changes that occur when substances change physical state. (These are topics form chapters 8,9, and 10).

The HW assignment is to read and summarize the following sections in your textbook: 8.3, 10.1, 10.2, 10.6, and 10.8; then make your best effort to complete the following questions: page 476 (33-36), page 479 (79,80,83,85), and page 481 (97-99)

5 paragraph essay discussion for your lab investigation: "Investigating evidence of chemical change" is due today. It should be typed.  If you do not have access to a printer, then you must write very neatly so I can read it completely.  This essay discussion is worth significant points, half the value of our last assessment.

Refer to the attached file for a guideline.  It is slightly modified from the version we looked at in class on Monday

Due:

Assignment

Assessment on measurement, uncertainty, graphing, and analyzing graphical data today.
Notes are due today.  Make sure to include your review guide and make sure you finish your graphical analysis for the silvery metal from lab.

Due:

Assignment

Finish this part of the review guide at home and include in your class notes that are due tomorrow.  Honors Chem needs to complete questions that ask about % error and greatest source of error.  General Chem students, you do not.

Due:

Assignment

Study for the assessment and write your essay.

Honors chem students, for homework you should try and complete the analysis of your graph from the review guide.  Determine the slope + percent inherent error, comment on how comfortable you feel with the accuracy of the result, and determine  the greatest source of inherent error.

Due:

Assignment

For homework, finish graphing the mass volume data from our lab (your data together with the sample data included on the attachment.  Use different symbols for the two metals so they can be distinguished on the graph.  Don't connect any data points.  We need to discuss the relationship in class Tuesday.

Due:

Assignment

Read and summarize (or outline) sections 1.3 through 1.5 of your textbook

Due:

Assignment

Write a rough draft for your lab discussion on our experiment "Investigating evidence of a Chemical Reaction."  For your rough draft, only write the body paragraphs 1,2, and 3, not the introductory or closing paragraph. This is a very important homework in that it is worth 2 points today.  You will have a chance to share out with your small group in class. The guidelines for this essay are attached here
