Due:

Study for the parallel assessment and read sections 7.8 and 7.9 in your textbook.

Due:

Read and summarize sections 7.5 through 7.7 in your textbook.

Due:

do an online research of emission spectroscopy, and applications of spectroscopy in other fields like medicine and astronomy; then write a summary of your research.

Due:

Review sections 7.2 and 7.3 and read section 7.4.  Copy each of the mathematical formulas/expressions that occur throughout the reading and briefly explain the significance of each.

Due:

Read over sample exercise 7.1 on page 277 (its like one we did in class) and sample exercise 7.2 on page 278 (this one shows the relationship between frequency and energy of light).  For each question (31-36) at the end of the chapter set up (but do not calculate) the mathematical expression to determine the unknown.
For your information: nm = 10-9 m; MHz = 10-6 sec-1

Due:

Read and summarize sections 7.1 through 7.3 in your textbook on modern atomic structure

Due:

Assessment today: Atomic Structure/Nuclear Chem (notes due today)

Due:

The classwork from Tuesday (sub day) must be completed.  If you did not turn it in Wednesday you can turn it in Friday.  The questions are included here as an attachement
2.18, 2.27, 21.1-21.5, 21.24

Due:

Read and take notes from the attached file on using the radioactive carbon-14 isotope to date human artifacts

Due:

Read sections 18.2 and 18.4 in your textbook.  Summarize both sections (except 18.2 if you've done it before) and then copy the formulas and mathematical expressions that occur in the text for those sections, and copy the sample exercises 18.3 (pg 847), 18.4 (pg 848), 18.5 (pg 853) and 18.6 (pg 854-855)

Due:

Review sections 18.1and 18.3  in your text, and today's notes to complete questions 12, 14, 16a, 18, and 20 from page 869 in your textbook.

Due:

Continuing with nuclear chemistry, read and summarize sections 18.5 and 18.6 from your textbooks

Due:

Currently we are studying nuclear chemistry and its applications in our lives.  Read and summarize sections 18.1 through 18.3 for homework.

Due:

Previously, you read and summarized sections 2.2 through 2.5 as an introduction to the atomic theory of matter.  Please review those sections as necessary and complete questions 5-8 on page 69

Due:

HW is to study for the parallel assessment 👍

Due:

  • Read sections 2.7 through 2.8 in your text and complete questions 56-66 evens page72. This is a review of your summer assignment.
  • Also calculate the inverse of each volume from today's lab and plot against the pressure. If your original graph was truly inverse then this inverse graph will produce a straight line.  To calculate inverse, divide 1 by each volume

Due:

Read and summarize sections 2.4 through 2.6

Due:

HW tonight is a followup to the reading you did in class today.
Please read and write a summary of sections 2.1 through 2.3 in  your textbook.

Due:

5 paragraph essay discussion for your lab investigation: "Investigating evidence of chemical change" is due today. It should be typed.  If you do not have access to a printer, then you must write very neatly so I can read it completely.  This essay discussion is worth significant points, half the value of our last assessment.

Refer to the attached file for a guideline.  It is slightly modified from the version we looked at in class on Monday

Due:

Assessment on measurement, uncertainty, graphing, and analyzing graphical data today.
Notes are due today.  Make sure to include your review guide and make sure you finish your graphical analysis for the silvery metal from lab.

Due:

Finish this part of the review guide at home and include in your class notes that are due tomorrow.  Honors Chem needs to complete questions that ask about % error and greatest source of error.  General Chem students, you do not.

Due:

Study for the assessment and write your essay.

Honors chem students, for homework you should try and complete the analysis of your graph from the review guide.  Determine the slope + percent inherent error, comment on how comfortable you feel with the accuracy of the result, and determine  the greatest source of inherent error.

Due:

For homework, finish graphing the mass volume data from our lab (your data together with the sample data included on the attachment.  Use different symbols for the two metals so they can be distinguished on the graph.  Don't connect any data points.  We need to discuss the relationship in class Tuesday.

Due:

Read and summarize (or outline) sections 1.3 through 1.5 of your textbook

Due:

Write a rough draft for your lab discussion on our experiment "Investigating evidence of a Chemical Reaction."  For your rough draft, only write the body paragraphs 1,2, and 3, not the introductory or closing paragraph. This is a very important homework in that it is worth 2 points today.  You will have a chance to share out with your small group in class. The guidelines for this essay are attached here

Due:

Study and prepare for the parallel assessment on physical properties and separation techniques

Due:

We have begun a study of chemical change.  For the HW, read and summarize the attachment on Collision Theory and why reactions occur

Due:

Read and summarize the attached article about chemical reaction (sugar explosion)

Due:

Assessment planned for Friday (physical properties, separation techniques, molecular level modelling of elements, compounds, and mixtures)

Due:

We have been looking at techniques for separating mixtures based on observable properties.  Chromatography is one more widely used method to separate dissolved solutes from a solution.
  1. Do a google search and write about the processes of paper chromatography and thin layer chromatography (how they work, what are their applications),
  2. Read and summarize the attached research article on recent application of chromatography

Due:

Review chapter 1 in your text and complete questions 67-72 from pages 34-35.

Due:

Read and take notes, summarize or outline sections 1.1-1.2 and 1.9 in your text.  Be sure to include any bold face terms in your writing

Due:

Reading section 2.2 in your text. Complete questions 1-11 from the attached file

Also, download the class syllabus and safety instructions (look to the right side of this page for those files) and sign and return the appropriate pages today
